Natruël started with my children, but it really started with me. Their skin was dry in a way regular lotion didn't fix, and mine had been the same for years — I have the kind of skin where if something's going to cause a reaction, it finds me first. Nothing that worked was gentle, and nothing gentle worked. So every ingredient had to clear two bars: does it work, and will it behave. My own skin was the test.
What survived kept coming from the same places. Shea from women-run cooperatives in West Africa. Mango butter, which grows now on three continents and started on one. Baobab. These have been in luxury skincare for decades, usually at two percent, usually uncredited — I wanted them at the center, at a level that does something. The botanicals infuse into the carrier oils for six to eight weeks, and the vetiver comes from Haiti, direct, not through a distributor. It's more work. I'd rather do the work.

Retention Matters
Most moisturizers are built around water. It feels hydrating on contact, then evaporates within hours — taking moisture with it and leaving skin to signal for more.
Illumé takes the opposite approach. Waterless and lipid-based, it works with the skin's own barrier, replacing what skin loses rather than what it temporarily absorbs. The result is comfort that holds — and far less reaching for the jar.
